COLOR BOOK PRINTING
Color book printing is typically done in children’s picture books, coffee table books, and cookbooks. Color printing can be done either digitally or offset.
Color digital printing has come a long way, but from a quality perspective it still falls a bit short of color offset printing. Color digital printing can be done for cheaper than ever before, but if your book is over 100 pages, the cost to print a color book using the digital method can get exorbitant, especially if it is hardcover.
Some authors attempt to reduce the cost of their book by making only a portion of it color. However, it is very difficult to have a few individual pages be printed in color, even in a digital book, because those pages have to be inserted into the book before it is bound. The more page insertions you have, the higher the cost. That is why the book often has to be done on a color press, whether digital or offset, even if only 20-30 percent of the pages are color.
