Mill City Press prides itself on being the most author-friendly self-publisher in the industry, and takes that claim seriously. Our founder, Mark Levine, is both an author (two novels, one nonfiction book, and numerous published works) and an expert on intellectual property law. He has been helping authors navigate the waters of self-publishing for over two decades. Witnessing the abuse of many authors at the hands of their self-publishing companies provided Mark the impetus to write The Fine Print of Self-Publishing, an insider´s guide to 48 well-known self-publishers. The Fine Print is now on its third edition, and in 2009 the Independent Publishers Association awarded it an IPPY (Gold Medal for the Writing and Publishing Category).
Prior to Mark's book, most self-publishing companies had never been held accountable for their treatment of authors. After The Fine Print's release, Mark was able to meet with and tour many self-publishing companies. A few even amended their contracts and practices to become more accommodating to their customers, basing their updated standards on Mark's recommendations!
Despite working for sweeping improvements in the industry, Mark doesn´t think it has come far enough. There are still too many authors paying far too much for services that don´t help sell their books. In late 2005, he began seriously thinking about creating his own self-publishing company. As author of two novels and as an intellectual property lawyer, he was extremely familiar with the ins and outs of the self-publishing industry, and knew there was a better way.
Mark's experience with the self-publishing industry and e-commerce expertise were combined to form Mill City Press in 2006. Since that time, Mill City has published hundreds of titles, and continues to work to provide the most cost-effective, author-friendly publishing solutions in the industry.
Mark, Anna, and the rest of the Mill City Press team couple their dream of refining the industry with their collective inside experience to garner the most profitable results for your book. Simply put, Mill City Press won´t recommend services that don´t make sense for your book. We´ll give you the same high-quality service for less, and generate more sales for your book through our innovative approach to the market.
