To Everyone at Mill City Press:
I just received my first shipment of books ("Implosion At Los Alamos"), and wish to express my sincere thanks to all of MCP who have been so helpful, kind and considerate throughout this process; a process which at times became challenging.
You are all consummate professionals and individually blessed with stellar expertise. However, most importantly, you are all ladies and gentleman, and for that you are to be lauded - and I do.
Thanks to each of you and your staff members for everything. It is much appreciated, and may God Bless you and yours always.
A grateful and happy client and friend of Mill City Press...............Glenn

"My husband, Peter Lecouras, worked diligently on his writing for more than 30 years. He attempted many times to have his work published; relationships with editors/agents proved unsuccessful. After exploring many publishing companies, he was proud to connect with Mill City Press in March, 2009, for the publication of his first novella and several of his short stories, Requiem for a Good Soldier and Other Stories.
On April 1, 2009, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). I wanted his dream of publishing his first to become reality before he died but scared about the process that was left totally in my hands. After contacting Michelle at MCP, I set out to follow the step-by-step process of publishing since my husband was unable to do so.
The staff always responded promptly, always assuring me that I could complete the work myself. Knowing that Peter’s time was limited, MCP did a “rush print” of 10 copies of his book.
Before my husband died on November 9, 2009, he saw his book in print. That was one of the most exciting times in his life – mine, too, since I knew how hard he had worked. I can’t thank all of the staff enough for helping me. Peter has three other novels, and I promised him that I would get at least one more published – with the help of Mill City Press."

"After writing and selling fifty five romances, all published by main stream houses, I wrote a non-fiction biography about running my B&B and decided to publish it using Print On Demand. There was a quagmire of options. After extensive research, I settled on Mill City Press.
I have this antiquated conviction that a book should earn its writer money. The royalty fees and printing markups charged by the majority of POD companies made that impossible. Mill City offered no printing markups and 100% royalties.
I opted for the plan that I felt would give Blue Collar B&B, Adventures in Hospitality, the best possible opportunity in a difficult marketplace. Mill City made the publishing process not only painless, but enjoyable. I’ve had tremendous support and enthusiasm during every single stage. The talented and friendly staff at Mill City are experts at what they do. My every query was answered almost immediately, and there were lots of them. These dedicated people made it easy for me.
I learned more about publishing, publicity and self promotion in the short time it took to produce this book than I learned during the writing and publishing of the previous fifty five.
A heartfelt thank you, Mill City. I’m delighted with my book, and with the valuable education you’ve given me. Would I do it again? Absolutely! I can’t wait to get the next book underway."

"This past Fall while on vacation, my husband and I decided to visit MCP. I was very anxious to meet all the wonderful people I had been corresponding with over the past 6 months. You have NO idea what it was like for me as a first time author approaching your building, your suite, and then seeing the little MCP sign on the entrance. It was an adrenalin rush. I am quite certain that from a publisher's perspective you may not fully understand what that felt like as an author. Meeting all of you was like meeting my labor and delivery coaches. I was surprised at the smallness of your work spaces and yet amazed at your bigness~ working with 230+ authors~very impressive! Thanks so much for taking the time to meet with Mark and me. When we left that day I thanked my husband for making that happen. I told him that I could now cross one more thing off of my bucket list(: I am honored to have been asked to do a testimonial for your company. It's such an easy thing to do when you truly believe in a self-publishing company that is 100% committed to their authors!
Choosing a company to self-publish with was a daunting process and took me months of research. I found no other company that offered the author 100% royalties, wholesale printing costs, AND complete author control. From the moment I started self-publishing until I held the book in my hands, not once did I have any regrets on choosing MCP. Being a first time published author I had a million questions along the way. When not working my job as a nurse, I spent a good portion of 8 months at my computer. It was very important for me to accomplish whatever I could on my days off. MCP was extremely prompt and courteous in answering my questions. I am not exaggerating to say that typically I had a response within a half hour of sending an e-mail. If Michelle or Danielle did not have an answer for me, I was always referred to the appropriate party who did."
The author control panel was very user friendly and the e-mail prompts were very helpful as well. I will never forget the day I reached the bottom of the author control panel! I know that everyone at MCP celebrated with me. By the way it truly is an "author control" panel because I had complete control over every aspect of the publishing process. In the past I had a card line that I regretfully surrendered to a corporate company under a licensed agreement. I know the horrors and the hurt of losing control of something that you are so passionate about. Working with the people at MCP helped redeem my trust in humanity.
Lastly, kudos to graphic designer Kristeen. She brought my book to life by creating a front and back cover design that was cohesive and complimentary to my writings. My book is eye-appealing, professional, and all that I dreamed of and more!"
Hats off to the entire staff of MCP and a heartfelt thank you for making my self-publishing adventure a rich and rewarding one."

"My publishing saga, like many unheard-of authors, is long and painful. My book Who Says I Can't took two years to write and three years to publish. I did what you are supposed to do at first: I got an agent. That took the first year of the process. My agent then spent another year sequentially going one by one to his best contacts in the trade publishing business shopping my book. The feedback was very consistent: this is a great story that is well written but the author does not have a national platform on which we can build a successful marketing program. I asked my agent what they all meant by a platform. He said, "Well you know, like Lance Armstrong, Michael J. Fox or Barack Obama, they all have platforms." But the whole point of my story is how a normal everyday "everyman" can be so severely knocked down by life and can fight back, survive and thrive as I have. They were presenting me with a classic unbreakable Catch-22. My agent tried that tack for a year and gave up and left me back where I started: alone to figure out how to get my book, that could help hundreds of thousands of people if they knew about it, published.
When I started the process two years previously, all those in the know told me that self-publishing was a dead end and while I might sell 500 copies of my book it would go no further and that would be the end of the road for that book as no big publisher would pick it up from there. But I was hearing different messages two years later. Now there were many stories of people who self-published and then worked diligently to market their books and did very well through the new distribution channels the self-publishers can offer. Some even got picked up by mainstream publishers after proving there was demand for their work. All I knew was that this book needed to get out into the public some how, and soon. So I did the research on self-publishing and a few names kept appearing on the top of reviewer's and customer's lists and one of those was Mill City.
I signed up with Mill City and they alerted me to the option to have my manuscript assessed and if they liked it they would shift it over to the Bascom Hill imprint where it would come out of a hybrid publisher that is part self-publisher and part boutique traditional publisher. I said why not and the assessment was very positive. From there the process has been nothing short of a total pleasure. They had a fantastic editor work with me named Erin Roof. Their production of the cover, the book design, the layout, and the Web site are truly professional and outstanding. The marketing work by Emily and Rosey is as good as the big publishing houses can provide. Every email and call was answered immediately frequently by the previous author coordinator and key advocate for the author: Michelle. Michelle is the person whose picture appears in Wikipedia next to the phrase "customer service." As long as the author is willing to work side-by-side with them and put in the effort to make the book as good as it possibly can be, the results will be fantastic. I would not want it any other way even if I was working with a gigantic Random House type of publisher. To the nay-sayers I would point out that in our first 45 days before the book was even listed on Amazon or in the big book stores, we sold 500 copies. I have high hopes this will do well and that will in no small part be because of the fantastic team at Mill City Press and their Bascom Hill Books imprint."

"Having put heart and soul into my first novel, Smoke, I was determined to get it published. Since I got nowhere with agents or commercial publishing houses, I researched the POD industry. This led me to choose Mill City Press, and I am very happy with the result. The price is right, and the people there are competent, friendly, and supportive. I plan on using them again. "

"I originally pursued my book project Making The Big Game: Tales of an Accidental Spectator with another publisher and was thoroughly disappointed with the service. When I came to Mill City Press, I was in the process of terminating my contract with the prior vendor. I was frustrated and short on time to complete final editing and get to production. Mill City was far more hands on in addressing my needs and ultimately provided access to the team members I needed to move my book forward. I was particularly impressed with quality of the finished product including the cover and layout. Insertion into distribution channels was timely and widespread giving me full confidence to market the book to chain, independent, and online retailers. The process of getting the finished work to the marketplace is almost as challenging as writing the book itself. Mill City makes the final hurdles easier to clear. I have recommended them to other aspiring authors."

"Overall, I was very pleased with my publishing process with Mill City Press. I got what I expected but better yet, I got what I wanted! I'm particularly pleased with how the book "looks" . . . the cover is perfect for the material! The graphic artist had good ideas and I felt I was "in the loop" at all times! Likewise, the web site www.susan0to60.com really showcases the material and gets many positive comments.
Now, as to marketing . . . this is my 7th published book but the only one that I "controlled". The others have been done in hardcover by Intrigue Press, Poisoned Pen Press with paperbacks by WorldWide and Simon and Schuster. I'm a mystery writer but this is my first women's fiction and, frankly, I see it as a movie and wanted all the rights in my name. I'm currently struggling to get the foreign rights on one of my mysteries and it's a hassle. 0 to 60 has already been optioned by Hollywood!!! So, I'm hoping intuition will pay off! Mill City gave a nice "out of the chute" push to my novel and it was nicely reviewed on several blogs, which gave me the momentum to keep forwarding the promotion of my book by supplementing with my own efforts as well. "When I was faced with the choice of self-publishing or letting my memoir languish in a drawer after 10 years of hard work on it, it was daunting and overwhelming. But after researching my options, I settled on Mill City Press (MCP). I am so glad I did. From the very first conversation, I was comfortable with the staff. Their hands-on, no nonsense approach made a very difficult process both manageable and satisfying. I utilized just about all the services MCP has to offer and when the finished product, my memoir, “Following the Whispers,” arrived on my doorstep, I wasn’t disappointed. The cover, the interior layout, the editing, is just as good as any other traditionally published book found on bookstore shelves. I highly recommend MCP as a self-publishing choice you won’t regret."

"I am extremely fortunate to have chosen Mill City Press as my self-publishing company. Their staff have been nothing short of stellar in providing quality customer service. At each step of the publishing process they have promptly answered my questions, reduced my anxiety, and made suggestions to improve my book. In addition I receive 100% of royalties from all book sales! Mill City Press is unquestionably the best self-publishing company for any author."

"It is my pleasure to speak about Mill City Press and to share my comments and thoughts as it pertains to my recently published book, A Father’s Odyssey. Not only were the programs for the authors of Mill City Press of the highest professional quality, but the support and guidance provided its authors were first class.
My book, A Father’s Odyssey, has now been made into a documentary, My Run, with Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton as its narrator. My Run has now received one of the highest awards in its industry, the DOVE Award, indicating that children and families are its focus. Soon to follow from A Father’s Odyssey will be a feature film titled Pushing Life.
The quality of the work that Mill City Press provided helped me to present my story in a professional manner and allowed me to market my book in a very aggressive and “hit the market running” program."

"I have worked with MCP for a year now and have found it to be outstanding in every respect. Even as a published author prior to working with MCP, I was not aware of the team effort it took to publish, distribute, and market a book. I interacted with a dozen or more individuals, each one of whom was competent, helpful, and cordial.
To facilitate this interaction, MCP provided an Author Coordinator to keep the ball rolling and an Author Website where tasks to be done were identified and tracked. And the good news -- it worked!
To handle tasks such as distribution and marketing, which were beyond my capabilities, MCP tailor made a website for me, provided national distribution of my book, and today is directing a publicity campaign with elements of traditional and web-based marketing.
If I had to do it over again, I would without question choose the "A Team" at MCP. In short, MCP appears to me to be a growing company, conscious of its need to produce quality books while also maintaining excellent working relations with its authors."

"Having published a number of books over the years through conventional academic publishers, I have been surprised and greatly pleased with the creative and efficient work of Mill City Press. The professional staffs are truly amazing. They are sensitive to the needs of the writer, excellent in editing, thoughtful in the design of the book interior and cover process, and energetic in marketing and promotional efforts. I highly recommend Mill City Press for authors of serious academic books or any other genre as well based on my experience with their publishing process."

"Mill City Press published my novel, Susannah, A Lawyer - From Tragedy to Triumph. The staff was patient, polite, competent, and pleasant working partners. The designer created a piece of art work for the cover.
Now, as their contract and their public statements bear out, I am not charged anything over their costs for printing the my book. I'm very happy I chose this company. I would recommend them to any author who does not want to wait for years to hold their book in their hands. "

"I have to thank MCP for the professional help and advice they provided during the production of Hart’s Original Petpourri, Vol 1, Miscellany. They held the hand of a novice first-time book author, and provided friendly and efficient help through all stages of publication. Being a “Miscellany,” the book had over 450 separate entries. This produced a lot of e-mail traffic, especially during editing and formatting. I could not have asked for closer cooperation. They deserve sincere appreciation for their customer service.
I am delighted with the quality and appearance of my book; the cover and interior layout is impressive. It obviously is the work of an efficient and talented production team--a team I have no hesitation in recommending to any aspiring author."
