Print-on-demand (POD) technology has greatly improved in the past few years, and most POD printers are able to offer a number of book (or trim) sizes and bindings. Black-and-white books can have trim sizes ranging from 4″ x 6″ to 8 1/2″ x 11″ and print books between 14 to 1,050 pages. Color books have the same trims available and print books between eight and 250 pages.
The most common trim sizes for standard trade fiction and nonfiction books include: 5″ x 8″, 5.5″ x 8.5″, and 6″ x 9″. Please note: All trim sizes are listed in inches; books with fewer than 80 pages cannot have text on the spine; cloth covers are available in blue or gray; paper weight for white and cream paper is 50 lb.; large paperbacks (7 x 10, 8 x 10, 8.25 x 11, 8.268 x 11.693, 8.5 x 11) and all hardcovers will have an increased price; and POD printer does not guarantee bleed of the edge of any page for books with black-and-white interiors, nor can the POD printer provide color matching services.
